Paumgartner altarpiece – Central piece – Hl. Joseph and Mary

A holy mystery is the scene: a genuflected St. Joseph faces a pregnant Virgin Mary, his arms open to accept, himself ready to submit to God’s Will. This son to be is not his own, yet he will accept to be the stepfather to God’s own son. The background, ruins of a city as in the original. Is sketched in light gold on light violet. The only other colored spot being some phtalocyanine ivy boughs (top left). There is a huge Christian meditation, and a deep symbolism in this image. The two warrior Saints at the sides represent a protection against evil, ready to sacrifice their own pureness in war to protect the Holy. Please, look, stay and meditate.
