Looking back at the youth

Maybe it’s Brooklyn Heights. A luxury apartment. A huge window and a long velvet curtain still allowing a magnificent view on the Island. It’s night, not too late though. A lanky man, in his mid-60’s, is sort of proudly standing by a great portrait of a much younger couple. Maybe it’s himself, many years ago, at the beginning of his career. If it’s so, maybe too that the by-then young woman by his side has gotten much older too. Or he has divorced a long time ago, and now a trophy wife is somewhere else in that charming house. She tolerates the portrait of her man with her own previous rival. It’s just a story, nobody’s saint in this image.
